I lied about having practice on Monday. It got colder than it was supposed to and was windy and raining, so that didn't really happen.
However, this picture clearly illustrates the weather at last night's practice. In case you didn't know, there's an app called Weather Whiskers, and it might be my favorite way to check the weather ever. Lolcatz and weather? You really can't go wrong. And it really was snowing. See gallery of pictures at the end of this post for proof.
Anyways. Back to business. Here's what went down:
Keep in mind that Thursdays are our shorter practices because we didn't want to go any later than 11pm but couldn't start until 9:30 due to the guys' practice before us. That being said, after warm-ups we did our usual focused throwing, getting used to the disc landing in the snow and throwing with cold hands. We then moved into a triangle drill where we did both forehand and backhand until we got into a rhythm. After rhythm was established in each of these, we went until we got ten consecutive completions.
Since we are still rushing to get back into the feel of ultimate, our next objective was a 3v3 scrimmage. We played a game to 7. It started off close (3-3 at one point), but then one team pulled away and won 7-3. After the scrimmage, we did our first fitness of the year: 10x10 yd. box, sprint the diagonals and shuffle the sides. I made sure to incorporate a drop-step when going from the shuffle to the sprint to kind of help people figure out the fastest way to turn themselves and accelerate. We would have done abs after the sprints, but everyone was being a pussy and didn't want to lie down in the snow (jk I love them all).
Practice status for Sunday is uncertain as of now.
Until next time,
Beowulf
